In the tranquil town of Timberline, a 900 pound grizzly bear named Boog (Martin Lawrence) enjoys a captive existence. He spends his day as the star attraction of the town’s nature show and spends his nights living the life of luxury in the garage of park ranger Beth (Debra Messing) who raised him since he was a cub in a poor captive state.
One day, maniacal hunter Shaw (Gary Sinise) drives into town with the one-antlered mule deer Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) strapped to the hood of his truck. Boog wakes him as the two scream in terror. With Boog reluctant to intervene, Elliot begs to for help to escape. At the last minute and against his better judgment, Boog frees Elliot before Shaw could go after him. Boog never expects to see his “buddy” again.
Elliot follows Boog home and finds him sleeping in the garage and starts to throw rabbits at the window. Elliot tells Boog the he is intent on returning the favor by “freeing” him from his garage captivity. Elliot introduces Boog to a world of sweet temptations outside of the garage that he has never known. When the grizzly’s true instincts begin to emerge, events quickly spiral out of control as the two ransack the town’s food store. Elliot escapes before Boog is caught by a friend of Beth, police officer Gordy (Gordon Tootoosis).
…
The following day, Boog leads a rampage against the hunters, sending them running after McSquizzy blows up their trucks. Shaw returns for a final battle. Elliot takes a bullet meant for Boog, enraging the bear who ties up Shaw with his own gun. Boog finds that Elliot survived the blast, only losing his second antler in the fight. Beth returns to take Boog back home, but instead he stays with his friends. She realizes that the bear is home in the forest.

Long ago in a post-ice age North America, there are three Indian brothers named Kenai (Joaquin Phoenix), Denahi (Jason Raize), and Sitka (D.B. Sweeney). Denahi is the middle brother, and Sitka, the oldest. Kenai, the youngest, hates bears because they fight for the same food, overtake the land, and ruin his coming-of-age ceremony. Each brother was given his own totem when they came of age: Sitka, the eagle of guidance and Denahi, the wolf of wisdom. At the ceremony, Kenai is presented with the bear of love. Kenai questions the totem he has been given with his brother by saying that “[bears] don’t love anyone, they don’t think, they don’t feel [...]“, calling them thieves when he notices the stolen fish basket.
When Sitka is killed in a battle with the bear that stole the basket, Tanana (Joan Copeland), the tribal shaman, officiates a funeral rite for Sitka. Suddenly Kenai ignores the village teachings of brotherhood with animals and sets out to hunt the bear for revenge and eventually kills it. To punish Kenai, the Great Spirits, represented by the spirit of Sitka, transform him into a bear. Unfortunately his other brother, who was pursuing Kenai to stop him, doesn’t realize what has happened. He finds Kenai’s torn clothes and believes the bear took his other brother’s life. In grief, he vows revenge.
…
Yet, while Kenai has regained his humanity, he can no longer talk with Koda, a cub who is now orphaned yet again. Rather than abandon Koda, Kenai tells Sitka that Koda needs him. Denahi calls Kenai “little brother” instead of “baby brother” and Sitka transforms Kenai (by his choice) back into a bear. The three brothers then share a hug and say goodbye, while Koda and his mother’s spirit do the same. The film ends with Kenai as a bear, accompanied by Koda, being welcomed back by his tribe and pressing his pawprint to the cliff wall, which bears the handprints of countless generations of other tribe members who also fulfilled the calling of their totem animals.

The film is inspired by the fable The Sky is Falling (also known as Chicken Licken, Henny Penny (By Samual Crompton), or Chicken Little). In the small suburban town of Oakey Oaks, Chicken Little (Zach Braff) rings the school bell and cries for everyone to “run for your lives!” This sends the whole town into a frenzied panic that causes so much havoc that it destroys a small part of the town; eventually they calm down enough to ask him what’s wrong, and Chicken Little explains that a piece of the sky shaped like a stop sign had fallen on his head when he was sitting under the big Oak tree in the town square. He’s unable to find the piece now. His father, Buck Cluck (Garry Marshall), ashamedly assumes that this “piece of sky” was just an acorn that had fallen off the tree and had hit him on the head. Chicken Little becomes the laughing stock of the town.
A year later, Little has become infamous in the town for being crazy, which has led to people avoiding him because of his supposed insanity, his only friends are outcasts like himself: Abby Mallard (Joan Cusack), who is called “Ugly Duckling” (who has a crush on Chicken Little); Runt of the Litter (Steve Zahn), who is extremely large despite being the smallest in the family; and Fish out of Water (Dan Molina), who wears a helmet full of water and does not speak, except in gurgles. All have been mocked and teased by neighborhood bully Foxy Loxy (Amy Sedaris) and her friend Goosey Loosey (Mark Walton).
…
In the invasion, Buck Cluck, now regaining his pride and trust in Little, defends him from the aliens, even going as far as deflecting an incoming vaporizer ray with a garbage can lid, throwing the lid at the creatures, and punching them away at the top of town hall. Abby, Runt and Fish also aid Chicken Little in his quest to return Kirby to his parents. It is then discovered that the aliens weren’t vaporizing people, the ray guns teleported them aboard a spaceship. Afterwards, the aliens return everything to normal (though Foxy Loxy’s mind was slightly scrambled after she was restored, making her more girly and kind), and Hollywood makes a heavily dramatized film about Chicken Little. At the end of the movie, Little and Abby are seen secretly holding hands in their popcorn bucket, and everyone cheers for Chicken Little’s efforts to save the town.
