In an alternate China (populated entirely by anthropomorphic animals), the Valley of Peace is protected by the Furious Five – Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper, and Crane – a quintet of warriors trained in kung fu by the tortoise Master Oogway and his protégé, the red panda Master Shifu. One day, Master Oogway has a premonition that Shifu’s former pupil and foster-son, the snow leopard Tai Lung, who was imprisoned after turning to evil, will escape from his high-security prison and attack the Valley. Oogway instructs Shifu and the others to hold a tournament in order to choose the legendary Dragon Warrior, worthy to receive the power of the Dragon Scroll, which is said to give nigh-supreme power to whomever reads it.

Po, a young giant panda and kung fu fanatic who works in his duck father’s noodle restaurant, is anxious to see the tournament, but is instead forced to take a noodle cart up the hill to the Jade Palace. When he arrives, the gates are closed and the tournament has already started. Desperate to see the tournament, Po tries several ways to get inside. In a final attempt, Po straps himself to a set of fireworks, by which he propels himself into the middle of the arena just as Oogway is about to point out the new Dragon Warrior, so that Oogway indicates Po as such. Unwilling to believe that a clumsy, fat panda can become the Dragon Warrior, Shifu attempts to berate and humiliate Po into quitting, subjecting him to a grueling series of matches with the Five, all of whom despise Po as an upstart, a failure, and a nobody. Po is dejected after his first day of training, but when he is given advice by Master Oogway, he refuses to give up. Soon, he endears himself to most of the Five (sans Tigress) with his impressive tenacity, culinary skill, and good humor, though he is still unable to grasp the basics of kung fu.

The Furious Five return with the village to find Po, dazed but victorious. Deeply impressed, Tigress leads the Furious Five in their acceptance of Po as a kung fu master. Po returns to Shifu and finds that he is barely conscious, but alive, and finally at peace now that Tai Lung has been defeated and peace restored. In a post-credits sequence, Po and Shifu are seen eating dumplings under Oogway’s favorite peach tree, where a peach seed Shifu planted earlier has begun to sprout into a seedling.

Six months after the events of the first movie, Neo wakes from a nightmare wherein Trinity had been shot by an Agent of the Matrix while falling from a building. Morpheus receives a message from captain Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) of the Logos calling an emergency meeting of all Zion’s hovercraft fleet. She has successfully recovered the information left by Captain Thaddeus (in the Animatrix short film Final Flight of the Osiris, recovered in the video game Enter the Matrix): 250,000 Sentinels are tunneling towards the underground city of Zion and will reach it in 72 hours. Commander Locke, the ranking military officer of Zion, orders all ships and their crews, including Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, and their new operator Link, to return to Zion to prepare for the onslaught of the machines. Morpheus asks a ship to remain behind to contact the Oracle, in defiance of Commander Locke’s orders. The Caduceus receives a message from the Oracle, and the Nebuchadnezzar, also in defiance of Locke’s order, ventures out to allow Neo to contact her. Meanwhile, one of the Caduceus crew members, Bane, encounters Agent Smith, who takes over Bane’s body. Smith then leaves the Matrix via the nearby hard line and into Bane’s body.

After conversing, the Architect gives Neo a choice of two exits from the room: one door will lead to the rebuilding of Zion, the other door to Trinity’s rescue, causing the downfall of humanity. Neo hastens from the building in an attempt to save Trinity, who is shot by an Agent as they fall from a building and is caught by Neo before she hits the ground. Refusing to accept her impending death, Neo removes the bullet lodged in her chest and manages to revive her by stimulating her heart. In the Nebuchadnezzar, Neo explains his findings to the crew, revealing that the prophecy of the One is false and that Zion will be destroyed in twenty-four hours. Sentinels approach and destroy the ship, whereupon Neo saves his friends by using an unexpected ability to overload and disable the Sentinels’ program with an EMP-like shockwave. The exertion inherent in this effort causes Neo to fall suddenly unconscious. The crew is picked up by the hovercraft Mjolnir , whose crew explains that they were to lead a pre-emptive attack on the army of Sentinels advancing on Zion. The strategy was to use the ship’s EMPs and stay out of each other’s range; but an EMP was detonated by the Caduceus before the ships could move into position. Therefore multiple ships were left without power, with only a handful of survivors escaping, the Sentinels having destroyed any ship that could not get away. Only one survivor was found aboard the Caduceus: Bane.

2,000 years ago, the evil Namekian warlord Piccolo (James Marsters) descended upon the Earth during a solar eclipse and attempted to destroy the world with the aid of his disciple, Oozaru. A group of monks conjured the Mafuba—a powerful but life-threatening enchantment designed to bind those caught within it—and used it to imprison Piccolo. Oozaru disappears, and the Earth gradually recovers. In the present day, Piccolo escapes his imprisonment and begins searching for the legendary Dragonballs in order to make a wish to the magical dragon Shen Long.

On the night of his 18th birthday, a young high-school student and martial artist named Goku (Justin Chatwin), comes home from a party hosted by his crush Chi-Chi (Jamie Chung) to find his beloved grandfather Gohan (Randall Duk Kim) dying. He was attacked by Piccolo who was seeking the 4-Star Dragonball. Before he dies, Gohan tells Goku to find find the martial arts master Muten Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat). Along the way, Goku meets Bulma Briefs (Emmy Rossum) of Capsule Corp. Capsule held the 5-Star Dragonball, but it was stolen by Mai (Eriko Tamura), who serves Piccolo. Goku offers Bulma his services in exchange for her help in finding Roshi. They find him in Paozu City and Goku begins training to harness his Ki while Bulma tries to pinpoint the location of the 6-Star Dragonball. They fall into a trap set by the desert bandit Yamcha (Joon Park), but Roshi convinces Yamcha to join them. Together, the group fight their way to the Dragonball, but Mai takes the ball. Roshi begins training to perform the Mafuba enchantment so he can reseal Picolo, while Goku must learn the most powerful of Ki techniques: the Kamehameha.

At the end of the film, a woman is tending the wounds of a now green-skinned Piccolo as he awakens.
