The United States of America, 2012: The imprisoned population is so vast that private companies are hired to contain them. In Terminal Island Prison, “Death Race”, a gladiator-like fight-to-the-end competition is held to raise funds.

The film begins six months before by showing a race near its end. Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) and a famous masked driver known as Frankenstein (original Death Race 2000 star David Carradine) engage in a bloody battle in which Frankenstein wins, but at the cost of heavy injuries and eventually death. Six months later, Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), an ex-racecar driver, is framed for his wife’s murder. Ames is sent to Terminal Island Prison where he immediately becomes enemies with an Aryan brotherhood gang, led by Pachenko (Max Ryan). He is taken to Hennessey (Joan Allen) who tells him that the gang will kill him without her help. Thus he is coerced by the warden to become the new driver of late Frankenstein’s car. The warden tells Ames that she knows about his baby daughter left in foster care. She also states that prisoners are freed upon winning five Death Races, but since the legendary Frankenstein had 4 wins at the time of his death, he would only require a single win. He agrees to race.

In the third stage, Joe and Ames must race one final time to the winner. Prior to the race Hennessey has a bomb planted under Frankenstein’s car, and then manipulates the race to favor Joe. However, her plans are ruined when Joe and Ames escape. Hennessey sends all her police force in pursuit and succeeds in capturing Frankenstein’s car. However, Ames had escaped from his car leaving his navigator, Case, dressed up in his costume, however Case has already received her walking papers. Joe and Ames hitch a ride and escape to Miami. Meanwhile, using the bomb from Frankenstein’s car, Coach kills both Hennessey and Ulrich, then turns to the camera and breaks the fourth wall, saying, “I love this game”. Six months later, Ames has his daughter back and Joe is working on living a clean life free of crime. As the two work on a car in their new home, a car pulls up and Case steps out to join the two..

In the year 2047, a signal from the starship Event Horizon is picked up on Earth. The ship had disappeared without trace beyond Neptune in 2040; her loss was considered the worst space disaster on record. The ship has reappeared in a decaying orbit around the planet Neptune, and the rescue ship Lewis and Clark is dispatched to investigate. The ship’s crew is commanded by Capt. Miller (Laurence Fishburne) and carries the Event Horizon’s designer, Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill).

When the Lewis and Clark arrives, the crew are informed by Dr. Weir that the Event Horizon had actually been built to test a secret, experimental gravity drive. The drive would create an artificial black hole to bridge two points in space to significantly reduce journey time. The ship had been on its initial test flight, intended to reach Proxima Centauri; it subsequently vanished without a trace. Weir plays to the crew the only signal received since the ship’s reappearance, spoken by ship’s captain, Cpt. Kilpack, which is a series of confusing screams and shouts, embedded in which is the Latin phrase liberate me (“save me”).

Upon approaching the drifting vessel, no definitive trace of human life is found; inconclusive sensor readings lead the Lewis and Clark’s crew to enter the Event Horizon to search for survivors. Inside, the crew split up and Medical Tech Peters (Kathleen Quinlan) discovers a frozen human corpse floating on the bridge, with both eyes gouged out. Engineer Justin (Jack Noseworthy) enters the ship’s core and sees a black, liquid-like mirror within its drive; it sucks him inside as he touches it and emits a large shock wave, damaging the Lewis and Clark. Rescue Tech Cooper (Richard T. Jones) manages to pull Justin out of the core by his tether, but he is catatonic.

The ship explodes at the neck and splits in two. The gravity drive then activates, pulling the rear of the ship into a wormhole. Starck and Cooper, with a comatose Justin, survive in the remaining forward decks and place themselves into stasis. Starck has a nightmare of a mutilated Dr. Weir rescuing her, and is awakened in a distraught state by the real rescue team as the film ends.

The film begins in The Hive, a top-secret genetic research facility owned by the Umbrella Corporation located deep beneath Raccoon City. A technician loads vials of blue and green liquid into a secured case, then tosses one blue vial onto the floor inside a lab, exits and seals the room. The vial breaks and the facility’s security system (known as the Red Queen) detects possible infection, seals the Hive and kills everyone inside.

Elsewhere, a woman known only as “Alice” (though she is not named onscreen) awakens in an empty mansion with amnesia. She finds a picture showing that she is married, other clues, like concealed automatic weapons, suggest she is not a simple housewife. After she steps outside the mansion door, a man yanks her back inside; the two are immediately seized by a group of commandos. The man, Matthew (known as Matt through the movie) Addison, identifies himself as a police officer, but the commandos handcuff him regardless. The team opens a mirror-door to an underground train station. While enroute to the Hive underground train station, the team discovers an unconscious man, known as Spence. Alice recognizes him as the man in the wedding photograph. Questioning reveals that he also suffers from amnesia. When the train arrives at the Hive, the commandos prepare to breach the Hive. The spy and CCTV cameras begin to activate in order to indentify the team.

The four survivors hurry to get to the other end of the railway before it shuts down in a quarantine attempt. However, the Licker is on the train; it scratches Matt and kills Kaplan. Alice does battle with the Licker while Matt kills Rain who has turned into a zombie. Matt opens the trap door the Licker is standing on. The Licker is dragged along the track and burned to death. Matt and Alice emerge as the only survivors, and escape at the last moment when the doors close. Matt begins to suffer a mutation from an injury inflicted by the Licker, and the two are seized by Umbrella scientists. The scientists mention sending Matt to the “Nemesis Program”; a role detailed further in the film’s sequel.[2] Alice attempts to fend off the scientists, but is ultimately subdued. As the struggle fades to black, the words of one of scientists are heard, “We’re reopening the Hive. I want to know what really went on down there. Just do it.” Later, Alice awakens at the Raccoon City Hospital and locked in an observation room. After escaping the room and wandering the hospital’s empty halls, Alice exits the building to find Raccoon City abandoned with signs of chaos everywhere. Alice takes a shotgun from a nearby police car, anticipating the danger ahead, then the camera pans to show the destruction of the city, where the film ends.
