The story begins in the back of a hill, located in a forest during the summer. The tree that the chipmunks Alvin (voiced by Justin Long), Simon (voiced by Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (voiced by Jesse McCartney) live in is cut down and driven to Los Angeles to become a Christmas tree. Once in LA, the Chipmunks meet struggling songwriter David Seville (Jason Lee) who had his latest song rejected by JETT Records executive Ian Hawke (David Cross) who was Dave’s college roommate. Dave once had a relationship with his next door neighbor, Claire Wilson (Cameron Richardson). She broke up with him because she felt he was too busy, irresponsible and he had no time for her.

After winding up at Dave’s interview, the Chipmunks hop into his basket and follow him home. Once at home, Dave discovers the Chipmunks, and is accidentally knocked unconscious. Upon waking, he kicks them out until hearing them sing “Only You (And You Alone)”. Dave then makes a deal with them; they sing the songs he writes, and in exchange he provides food and shelter for them. However, all does not go well, as Dave’s job presentation is ruined by their coloring on it, and when Alvin tries to set the mood for his dinner with Claire, things become weird and she rejects him after he tells her that “My life is being sabotaged by talking chipmunks”. To make it up to Dave, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore go to Ian in an attempt to record a song and get a record deal.

The end credits show several of The Chipmunks’ past albums.

Ricky Bobby was born to “go fast.” He was born in the back seat of his father’s car, and raised solely by his mother, Len Leplin, while his drug addict and alcoholic father, Reese Bobby, is absent. Many years later, while working on a pit crew as the jackman for a race team, he replaces an uninterested driver and ends up finishing in third place, despite starting mid-race in last place. Ricky quickly soars to the top of NASCAR, achieving fame and fortune at Dennit Racing and meeting his future wife, Carley (Bibb). He arranges to get his best friend, Cal, as the second driver of the team.

Fast forward to a couple of years later. While on top of the racing world, Ricky is challenged by homosexual French Formula One & CART driver, Jean Girard (Cohen). Girard outperforms Ricky on the track and becomes Dennit Racing’s top driver. Ricky, desperate to regain his dominance, pushes himself too hard and ends up in a spectacular wreck, during which he believes that he is on fire. While recovering, he persists in the belief that he is paralyzed. His tests at Rockingham Speedway show that he has lost his touch and he fails to regain a spot on the team. Carley, yearning to be married to a top NASCAR driver, plans a divorce and a marriage to Cal before Ricky gets home that night.

Ricky takes his two sons, Walker and Texas Ranger and moves back home with his mother. He takes a job as a pizza delivery and is reduced to using a bicycle after losing his license. With his life at its low point, Reese suddenly reenters Ricky’s life and tries to teach Ricky to drive by using the fear he experienced. With the retraining and guidance of his father, Ricky regains his confidence but still refuses to race after Reese walks out. When Ricky runs into his former assistant, Susan, at a bar, she convinces Ricky to get back into racing at the Talladega 500 and they fall in love. The race ends with all cars being wrecked and Girard and Bobby running on foot to the finish line. Girard then offers to shake hands with Ricky after Ricky beats him, but instead Girard passionately kisses him. Both drivers are disqualified for violating race procedures and Cal wins the race, having been in third prior to the wrecks. Ricky and Cal repair their friendship and the family, consisting of Ricky, Susan, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Ricky’s mother, meet Reese in the parking lot and reunite for a dinner during which they plan to get thrown out of Applebee’s.

Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are two salesmen in the greater Los Angeles area for an energy drink, Minotaur. They promote it as a way to keep kids off drugs. Wheeler loves the job. Danny on the other hand, hates the job and possesses a constant negative attitude toward life, which results in the collapse of his relationship with his girlfriend, attorney Beth (Elizabeth Banks). One day after making one of their presentations at a high school, the duo find that their company truck is being towed for parking in a “No Parking” zone. They protest by trying to drive it away from the tow-truck, but they end up driving it up a statue in front of the school.

They are arrested and the judge sentences the two to a 30 day jail sentence. Beth, however, manages to strike a deal with the judge in which they have to log 150 hours of community service over the next thirty days at the judge’s favorite charity, a big-brother style program called Sturdy Wings, led by Gayle Sweeny (Jane Lynch). Gayle, who takes an instant dislike to Danny and Wheeler, is aware that their presence at Sturdy Wings is court-ordered and warns them that if they fail to carry out their tasks to her satisfaction, she will have them sent to prison. Wheeler is paired up with Ronnie Shields (Bobb’e J. Thompson), a foulmouthed, streetwise miscreant obsessed with breasts who has driven away all the other “Bigs” he has been paired with, while Danny is paired up with Augie Farks (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), a nerdy teenager obsessed with live action role-playing games.

In the after-battle party, Augie finally hits it off with Esplen, who asks him to become her King, which he accepts, and the two kiss. Gayle, impressed with the pair’s efforts, tells them that due to a long standing relationship with the judge, she will be able to get their names cleared. The movie ends with Danny serenading Beth in front of everyone with an off-key and improvised version of the KISS song “Beth” (a reference to him saying “getting up in front of a large group of people and singing isn’t my idea of fun” at the beginning of the movie) and the two reconcile.

The 40 Year Old Virgin

  • Directors: Judd Apatow
  • Producers: Judd Apatow, Shauna Robertson, Seth Rogen, Clayton Townsend, Steve Carell
  • Writers: Judd Apatow, Steve Carell
  • Genres: Comedy, Romance
  • Actors: Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, Seth Rogen, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Banks

Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) is the eponymous 40-year-old virgin. A very well-meaning, highly neurotic, somewhat stereotypical nerd, Andy lives alone, collects action figures, enjoys video games, framed a poster of eighties rock band Asia, and his social life seems to consist of watching Survivor with his elderly neighbors.

Andy works in the stockroom at an electronics store called SmartTech. His co-workers include the affable David (Paul Rudd), who is tormented by memories of his old girlfriend Amy (Mindy Kaling); the burly Cal (Seth Rogen), a novelist and stoner; and Jay (Romany Malco), a self-styled ladies’ man. When a friend drops out of a poker game, they reluctantly invite the withdrawn Andy to join them. Andy turns out to be surprisingly good at poker due to his free-time of playing the game online, but when the conversations turn to past sexual exploits, they quickly realize Andy is still a virgin, and resolve to help him lose his virginity.

Andy is at first reluctant to go along with them, but after a heartfelt talk with David, he agrees to give it a try. The gang’s efforts prove to be unsuccessful. They take Andy to a bar, where Jay advises him to hit on drunk women, but this backfires when the girl Andy leaves with drives the two of them home drunk, wrecks the car, and vomits on him. Jay recommends that Andy get his chest waxed, but Andy finds it so painful that he leaves halfway through. (Steve Carell actually had his chest hair removed during the scene, and stated in an interview on Australia’s Rove Live that the scene was unnecessarily painful because the waxers forgot to oil his nipples.[3]) David gives Andy his “big box of porn” to help him “loosen up” sexually, but to no avail. They later go to a speed dating lunch, with no success, and at which David encounters ex-girlfriend Amy, sending him into a downward spiral of depression. Later, Cal advises Andy to be questioning when talking to women, (which makes Andy seem mysterious) and results in Beth (Elizabeth Banks), a bookstore clerk, taking a liking to Andy. Andy starts to open up, and as true friendships begin to form with his co-workers, Andy impresses his boss, Paula (Jane Lynch), with his salesmanship and she promotes him to floor manager.

They end up getting married with everyone in attendance, with a sidelong mention of Andy’s action figures having sold for approximately half a million dollars, and finally consummate their relationship on their wedding night. Andy finally loses his virginity with Trish in their hotel room. The film ends with an over-the-top musical scene in which the cast of the film sing and dance to the song “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In.”
