Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), is about to travel in a plane, when suddenly he receives a phone call. He fakes a heart attack, gets out of the airport, and calls his friend Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), telling him that he has got a call by someone who claims that he knows where they can find their old friend Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan). However, when they reach the place, they find out that the caller was an old batch mate Chatur Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya), who was also known as “Silencer” in the college days. He reminds them of a ten year old bet between him and Rancho that who will be more successful. He tells them that he knows where Rancho is, and the three seek a journey to find him.

The movie goes in flash back, where Farhan, Raju and Rancho join the Imperial College of Engineering, a.k.a. ICE, a fictional Indian engineering institute. It is shown that Rancho is an extraordinary student, or an Idiot, as labelled by the Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (ViruS) (Boman Irani), due to his intense interest in machines.

Rancho becomes an important part of both his friends, as he makes Farhan realize that his passion is photography, not engineering. He also helps Raju boost his self confidence, and helps him realize that Ramalingam (Silencer) just takes in the words, does not learn it. Other things include helping ViruS’s elder daughter in her pregnancy, saving Raju’s father, making ViruS remove his mustache on a bet that Raju will get a job through campus interview, helping both his friends clear their papers and falling in love with ViruS’s younger daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor). ViruS also gifts him his pen, marking him as his best student.

Suddenly then, Chotu reveals that he really is Phunsukh Wangdu, a scientist, who likes to teach and change the education system. Incidentally, he is the person who Ramalingam intends to find, so that he can sign a deal with him, as his job is based on that deal. Thus Chotu finally proves that he is much better than him.

Meet Jai Singh Rathore aka ‘Rats’, the most non-violent Rajput ever. Meet Aditi aka ‘Meow‘, a highly aggressive girl. She abuses. She scratches (hence the name Meow). It is Jai alone who can calm Aditi. Aditi thinks that Jai is the biggest coward she has ever encountered. However Jai and Aditi are college-going bosom buddies.

Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other. Friends know this. Parents know this. Everybody but the two themselves.

Aditi dreams of a virile, macho husband, while Jai is the contrary. However, they decide to hunt for a perfect life partner for each other.

Jai falls in love with Meghna at the first sight in a pub where two psychos were misbehaving with her. Jai saves her, not by fighting but by tricking the two psychos. Meghna always played the game of imagination, “What’s this?” When, Meghna and Jai got close to each other, Rotlu, Jiggy, Bombs and Shaleen were happy for Jai but no body noticed that Aditi was missing Jai’s company. Aditi had noticed changes in Jai’s attitude.

Rotlu, Jiggy, Bombs and Shaleen conclude the story and welcome Jai and Aditi at the airport who just returned from their honeymoon. Mala introduces herself to them as Jiggy’s girlfriend.

Amar Manohar (Aamir Khan) and Prem Bhopali (Salman Khan) are two ne’er-do-wells from Mumbai and Bhopal respectively who dream of becoming rich without working for it — by marrying a rich heiress, Raveena (Raveena Tandon). One has a habit of saying ‘haila!!’ and the other has a habit of saying ‘ooii maa!!’. They meet on a bus and discover that they are both out to win the heiress. Each of them tries various ploys to eliminate his rival, all of which fail ludicrously. In the end, Amar and Prem agree to join forces, insinuate themselves into the heiress’ household, and there compete for Raveena’s love.

Amar tries to get Raveena to hit him by annoying her. After several tries, he succeeds when Raveena, quite fed up with him, hits him with a log of wood. Amar acts as if he is unconscious. He is taken into Raveena’s mansion, where he is attended by Prem, pretending to be a doctor. After some skirmishing for Raveena’s attention, Prem finds himself increasingly attracted to Karisma (Karisma Kapoor), Raveena’s secretary. What Amar and Prem do not know is that Karisma whos actual name is Raveena is the real heiress. She switched places with her secretary in an attempt to find a man who would love her for herself, not for her money.

But to make things even worse (and funnier), Teja himself has an enemy, Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor), who then enters the plot. He takes everyone hostage, including Raveena, Karishma, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Teja and his cronies Robert (Viju Khote) and Bhalla (Shehzad Khan) to steal the precious diamonds that belong to the rich Ram Gopal Bajaj. Amar and Prem go to rescue them all. Comic hilarity ensues and in the end the villains are nabbed by the Police Inspector (Tiku Talsania).
